I Can’t See God, but He Sees Me
From Pastor Shemalya King
“But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” Job 23:10
Job mentioned (in Job chapter 23) that he wished that he knew where to find God–to stand before His seat. If Job could have found Him, he would have filled his mouth with arguments–Job had so many questions that needed answers. He knew that if he had found God and stood before Him, God would have answered him and strengthened him. Job declared that he looked everywhere (forward, backward, left, and right), but couldn't find God.
I remember when I was a little girl (young enough to still have naps). My mom had combed and decorated my hair (it took a long time, it seemed) and put me down for a nap. I must have slept for a while. When I woke up, the house was too quiet for me. I could sense that my mom's presence was NO WHERE in the house. The fear that gripped me is indescribable. I ran through the house crying. Finally, I broke out the front door! I heard my mom's voice and looked to my right (she was next door talking to a neighbor). The comfort that came at the sound of her voice was also indescribable. I believe had I known that my mom was in the house (if she had been), though not in the same room with me, I wouldn't have been as frightened. I had trust in my mom at that age, that when she was in the house, she knew where I was; and I knew that I was safe as long as I KNEW where she was (in the house).
Job couldn't find God after looking everywhere for Him. But Job had a comfort that I didn't have that day: Job knew that God could see him–all of his goings and comings. (Job 23:9-10). If I had known that my mom could see me or could hear my voice, I would have been comforted. Friends, you may be looking ALL over for God, straining your eardrums to hear His voice. You may be asking questions that need answers. It's frustrating when YOU can't find Him or hear Him, especially when you're in a trial. But, God never leaves us with ABSOLUTELY NO COMFORT. This is the one comfort that should never leave you (the little comfort that Job had): I know that my God sees me AND hears me. (Proverbs 15:3; Psalm 34:15)
Whatever trial you're in, you're only being tried (tested and proven: going through a demonstration that will produce evidence that you are true). Even Jesus endured crucifixion, such evil against Him; though He was innocent of the judgment. Those who stood by, after Jesus had survived not resisting God's will, declared the realness of Christ: “Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God” Matthew 27:54.
Job declared, “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold” Job 23:10. You're coming out of this trial flawlessly! Amen.
