Are You a Pod Person?
From Elder Mike
Do you only interact with people you already know? Do you drive your pod up to your house, push a button that opens the door to your pod storage unit and enter your stationary pod without even seeing your neighbors? Are the back walls of your house high enough that you can't see your neighbors? Most neighborhoods nowadays are designed to isolate you from your neighbors. There are no front porches to sit on or lawns to mow so that you can speak to your neighbors as they walk by. People buy everything that they can online so that they don't have to leave their pod. They even pay the people at Walmart a little extra to do their shopping for them and just pick up their order at the curb, having as little interaction as possible.
If that is your life, then how can you be salt and light? How do you love your neighbors? How can you bring to bear the kingdom of God on this earth? In our Discovery Bible Study groups (DBS), we are encouraged to invite our neighbors to the groups. It is important that we somehow get to know our neighbors, their hopes and dreams, their challenges, and what makes them tick. Ask God to give you strategies to overcome the design of your neighborhood so that you can get to know your neighbors and become the salt and light God has called you to be.
